Mindfulness Training

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.

The benefits of mindfulness include: (1) Stability of the Mind-maintaining your mind in a clear and alert space; (2) Mental Flexibility; (3) Self-Awareness; (4) Acting rather than Reacting.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based form of cognitive therapy that incorporates mindfulness practices such as meditation and breathing exercises. Using these tools, an MBCT therapist can teach clients how to break away from negative thought patterns that can cause a downward spiral into a depressed state so they will be able to fight off depression before it takes hold. MBCT is also effective in managing the thought patterns and bodily sensations that lead to anger and anxiety.
